Dr. Don Sanders received his undergraduate education at Ohio Northern
University. Like Dr. Judy Sanders, he entered the
College of
Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State University in 1964
and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1968. Following eight
years of field training combined with a four-year program of examinations in
the area of reproduction medicine, Don became a Diplomate of the American
College of Theriogenology in 1981.
Since the early 1970's Don has practiced large
animal medicine almost exclusively. In addition to serving clients, he has
conducted field research on BVD and mycoplasma vaccines, stray voltage in dairy
operations, bovine mastitis, toxic substances and nutrition. Because of his
expertise in the areas of nutrition, reproduction, disease processes and
production medicine in food animals, he is consulted by clients and veterinary
practitioners from across the United States. He has presented research papers
and been guest speaker at the annual meetings of several professional
organizations and farm industry conventions including the American Association
of Bovine Practitioners, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, Brookside
Laboratories, and the World Dairy Expo.
Don has published numerous articles in both
professional and farm industry publications. He formerly was the Herd Health
columnist for Dairy Today magazine. He has also written a
book on dairy cow management titled Dr. Sanders' Guide to Boosting Dairy
Profits. This self-help manual for dairymen is published by American Veterinary
Publications, Inc.; it is available at the Clinic and through any
bookstore.
Don, as well as his wife, Dr. Judy Sanders, is
active in the Champaign County and west central Ohio communities. Together they
support and participate in 4-H and FFA
activities and are the Champaign County Fair veterinarians. They frequently
serve as guest speakers for school and career development programs, young
farmer organizations, cattlemen's groups and 4-H, horse, kennel and rabbit
clubs. Judy is also a member and past trustee of the Champaign County Humane
Society.
Don has recently published a new book and founded
a new company called VACA resources. See the new site at http://vacaresources.com for more
information.
