The Ohio State University Clinic at Marysville offers
a full range of services for horses and complete production medicine
programs for dairy and beef cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and other food
animals. Routine services provided for large animals include:
- General, prepurchase and insurance physical
examinations.
- Preparation of health papers for interstate
and international export.

- Treatment and prevention of internal and
external parasites
- Vaccinations, including in-house preparation
of vaccines for individual herds
- Diagnosis and treatment of skin
conditions
- Diagnosis and treatment of illness and disease processes
including laboratory testing for liver disease and urinary infection
and failure

ration analysis and blood and tissue analysis; water testing

management, IgG testing of foals, and laboratory analysis for crisis-causing

including colic, bloat, displaced abomasum and hardware disease

EKG, ultrasound and radiology

The Ohio State University Large Animal Service doctors
perform all routine surgical procedures such as castrations, tumor removals,
cosmetic dehornings, Caslick's surgery, Cesarean sections, and repairs
of lacerations, fractures, hernias and displaced abomasums. They also
perform more sophisticated procedures such as fracture repair with bone
plating, stifle repair in cattle, and check ligament repair to restore
bowed tendons in horses.
Production medicine programs are tailored to each type
of food animal, but includes consultation on animal housing, nutrition,
reproduction, general health care, disease control and personnel training.
The dairy cattle program features regular herd health visits and guidance
on mastitis control, milking machine function, DHIA records analysis,
and calf and heifer management. The swine program offers computerized
cost analysis.
